7 Pets That Have Helped Cancer Patients | Finding Comfort In Our Pets
If you have a pet, you know the impact they have on your life. Our pets can bring us joy, offer companionship, and so many other wonderful things.
This is especially true for those facing cancer. Pets can become so much more in times of stress and anxiety.
The National Institutes of Health says that “Interacting with animals has been shown to decrease levels of cortisol (a stress-related hormone) and lower blood pressure. Other studies have found that animals can reduce loneliness, increase feelings of social support, and boost your mood.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “the bond between people and their pets can increase fitness, lower stress, and bring happiness to their owners”. Some of the health benefits the CDC lists include:
- Decreased blood pressure
- Decreased cholesterol levels
- Decreased triglyceride levels
- Decreased feelings of loneliness
- Increased opportunities for exercise and outdoor activities
- Increased opportunities for socialization
To celebrate National Pet Day, we want to share our furry family members with you. They’ve certainly been there for us to spread some love and offer comfort, so we’re hoping they put a smile on your face today.
