Led by patients, The INSTITUTE is a unique resource that helps individuals navigate the complexities of cancer — what we call "Cancerland"— by offering clear, trusted information and training the next generation of patient leaders and advocates. What We're Building
The INSTITUTE has three levels of learning to help our patients/students navigate their diagnosis:
Cancer Basics & How to Deal with Them
This is your starting point. Here, we cover the essentials, including:
- Why you should take charge of your own health
- Understanding cancer risk, diagnosis, and treatment
- What biomarkers are and how they guide treatment
- How clinical trials and research work
- Practical tips for living with cancer and improving quality of life
Beyond the Basics
Ready to learn more? In Level 2, we expand on the basics and introduce:
- Detailed information on the topics covered in Level 1
- Insights into different types of patient advocacy
- Resources from expert sources we trust and collaborate with
Become a KAPA Patient Leader & Advocate
Interested in making a difference? Level 3 is designed to train patients who want to advocate for themselves and others. You’ll learn:
- How to develop your leadership skills
- Ways to work effectively with healthcare organizations, medical sites, and researchers
- Additional types of advocacy and how to get involved
